Pulaski Area Transit

Public Transportation

Pulaski Area Transit was started on October 1, 2005, with a Demonstration Grant from the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation in the amount of $171,000, using (two) 12 passenger buses running 16 hours of service per day. The FY 2013 budget is $425,834 using 10 buses and providing 40 hours of service per day.

The continuation of the public transportation will be determined by two main factors. One is the usage of the system by the citizens of Pulaski. Second will be the money required by the Town of Pulaski to continue the transportation system.

Starting October 1, 2013, Pulaski Area Transit will receive 50% of its funding from the Federal Transit Administration 5311 Program. Approximately 20% from the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation and approximately 30% from the Town and County of Pulaski.

To help offset cost and assist the Town of Pulaski in meeting its 30% match requirement, Pulaski Area Transit will help raise funds by sponsoring a Golf Tournament, requesting contributions from local merchants and businesses and providing special trips for area events.

One goal is to add partners in the Pulaski area such as the Town of Dublin, New River Community College and Pulaski County by offering transportation services to these areas

The staff of Pulaski Area Transit, the Town of Pulaski and Pulaski County remain very excited about our public transit system and providing a quality service for the residents of Pulaski Town and County.

Our drivers are dedicated to making your ride safe, reliable and comfortable. Our office staff is equally eager to help you with your transportation needs. If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns please feel free to call us at 980-5040.
